How a background in textile engineering and a passion for slow living are reshaping the way we view Indian heritage.
When people hear the term "Textile Engineer," they often think of industrial labs, high-speed machinery and synthetic polymers. For years, that was my world. But as I spent more time analyzing the technicalities of fibers and weaves, I found myself constantly drawn back to a different kind of precision- the kind that can only be found in the rhythm of a handloom.
I realized that while the world was moving faster toward "fast fashion", we were losing the very thing that makes textiles meaningful: The human connection.
The "Engineering" of a Handloom
A common misconception is that traditional Indian crafts like Mithila art or Bandhani are simple "folk arts." As an engineer, I see them differently. I see complex geometry, tension control and natural chemistry.
At Kaadamb, we don’t just look at a piece of fabric as a garment, we look at it as a masterpiece of sustainable engineering. Whether it is the intricate tie-and-dye patterns of the piece I’m wearing today or the storytelling woven into Jamdani , there is a logic and a legacy in every thread.
Why Sustainability Isn’t a Trend, But a Habit
My technical training taught me about the lifecycle of materials. It’s why Kaadamb is built on the pillars of circularity.
-
It’s why we host "Sunday Recycling" sessions.
-
It’s why we advocate for "Mend it May".
-
It’s why we believe that the most sustainable piece of clothing is the one that is built to last for decades, not just a season.
I started Kaadamb because I wanted to bridge the gap between this incredible Indian heritage and the urban, modern woman. I wanted to create a brand where "globalization" didn't mean losing our roots, but rather, giving our artisans a global stage.
Beyond the Fabric
More than a label, I wanted Kaadamb to be a space for creative expression. That’s why we host our monthly workshops on Mithila art, Powerloom vs Handloom in Bangalore. I want you to feel the texture of the fabric, understand the history of the motif and reconnect with your own creativity.
We aren't just making clothes. We are weaving a legacy that is lived, loved and relevant for the world today.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Let’s choose slow, choose soulful and choose craft.
